MY BOOK

I wrote a book called Finding Time which a a work of pure fiction and explores the exploits of a girl called Maya Vickers who escapes her boring job in Sheffield to travel and explore herself in Sri Lanka. its a lot of fun and a good beach read. Its available on www.Amazon.com Just put my name in and it should come up!

Private Classes

I am available for private lessons at foundation and intermediate levels. Or for therapy and pregnancy yoga. Rates and details discussed by contacting me.

Please note that there is a 50% charge if the class is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice.

What to Wear?

Remember to wear comfortable clothing that is non-restrictive. Jogging bottoms are fine although I may need to see what your legs are doing so shorts or leggings are better. If you are in a hot climate dress accordingly as we can get pretty sweaty. Try to keep jewellery to a minimum (non if possible) as adjustments are made during the class and they can get in the way.

Eating

Don't eat a large meal for over 3 hours before a class. Small meals can be eaten an hour before a class. Some of the postures can tone the inner organs too and this can be uncomfortable if you have eaten recently.

Equipment

Mats and some blocks are supplied. If you decide that yoga is for you, then it is a good idea to get your own equipment eventually. That way you can do more yoga at home. And the place you really develop your practice is on your own mat in your own time! Try the Yoga Shop a fantastic website to get all your equipment from. Links on the last page.

About Wendy

I have been on my own journey with yoga for the last 10 years, starting, as many of us do, with a weekly yoga class. I soon realised how much I was gaining from practising yoga. My body was getting stronger, my mind more alert and I experienced an inner peace that had been lacking in my life. I was converted!

I gradually sort out more yoga classes and increased my own practice to several times a week. This didn't happen instantly but over a period of years. I studied with Iyengar teachers and learnt a great deal about alignment and precision of poses and the stamina and strength I needed to add to my flexibility. After 7 years practice and several different teachers in Iyengar, Hatha and Ashtanga yoga from the UK, India and Australia I eventually felt confident enough to study as a teacher. After all, I had bored my friends to death with yoga talk - I needed people who would really listen - students.

I found my teacher after years of searching for the right person and was recommended an exceptional teacher called Nicky Knoff in Cairns, Australia. Check out her website:www.knoffyoga.com

Nicky is a master teacher having been teaching for over 35 years and studied with some of the yoga greats such as Iyengar, Patthabi Jois and Bikram.

In 2006 I undertook a Teacher Training course in Foundation yoga and in 2007 studied Intermediate Teacher Training along with Pregnancy Yoga and Therapy Yoga. I now qualify under the international authority of the Yoga Alliance and am certified with 500 hours Teacher Training.

Further training with ashtanga teachers in Edinburgh such as Michael Gannon and Matthew Sweeney and in Mysore, India with Sri Sheshadri where I like to spend a month soaking up his wisdom and energy (2008 and 2009)has given me a greater understanding of vinyasa and I try to incorporate this tool in my teaching as much as possible.

Also deepening my understanding of meditation I attended a vipassana retreat in Sri lanka 2010. This has helped me greatly to accept the constant change in life and to observe every moment as it is.
