About Wendy
I have been on my own journey with yoga for the last 15 years, starting, as many of us do, with a weekly yoga class. I soon realised how much I was gaining from practicing yoga. My body was getting stronger, my mind more alert and I experienced an inner peace that had been lacking in my life. I was converted!
I gradually sort out more yoga classes and increased my own practice to several times a week. This didn't happen instantly but over a period of years. I studied with Iyengar teachers and learnt a great deal about alignment and precision of poses and the stamina and strength I needed to add to my flexibility. After 7 years practice and several different teachers in Iyengar, Hatha and Ashtanga yoga from the UK, India and Australia I eventually felt confident enough to study as a teacher. After all, I had bored my friends to death with yoga talk - I needed people who would really listen - students.
I found my teacher after years of searching for the right person and was recommended an exceptional teacher called Nicky Knoff in Cairns, Australia. Check out her website:http://www.knoffyoga.com
Nicky is a master teacher having been teaching for over 40 years and studied with some of the yoga greats such as Iyengar and Patthabi Jois.
In 2006 I undertook a Teacher Training course in Foundation yoga and in 2007 studied Intermediate Teacher Training along with Pregnancy Yoga and Therapy Yoga. I now qualify under the international authority of the Yoga Alliance and am certified with 500 hours Teacher Training.
Further training with ashtanga teachers in Edinburgh such as Michael Gannon and Matthew Sweeney and in Mysore, India with Sri Sheshadri where I like to spend a month soaking up his wisdom and energy (2008 and 2009) has given me a greater understanding of vinyasa and I try to incorporate this tool in my teaching as much as possible.
Also deepening my understanding of meditation I attended a vipassana retreat in Sri lanka 2010 and in the UK in 2013. This has helped me greatly to accept the constant change in life and to observe every moment as it is.
